Prevention

We undertake a range of prevention work within the local community.

Staff Training

We provide training and awareness raising sessions with a range of organisations to:

  • Raise awareness of what domestic abuse is and how prevalent it is in our local community
  • Educate people about the impact domestic abuse has on women and children
  • Help them recognise the signs of abuse
  • Give them confident to support and signpost people to the ourselves and other services that can support those affected by domestic abuse

Children and Young People

We strive to tackle the issues of:

  • Gender stereotypes
  • Gender inequality
  • Healthy and unhealthy relationships

We have a 7 week programme we are currently piloting in a number of local Primary Schools working with P5-7.

During the 16 Days of Action against Violence for Women and Girls we worked with local Fire and Police Cadet groups doing workshops on gender inequality, sexist language and gender roles.  These issue were tackled through fun interactive games and discussions.  We had sexist words/phrase on giant Jenga bricks, demonstrating that consistently using these types of words phrase have a negative effect.  We played gender inequality 'Play Your Cards Right' (not that any of the cadets could remember the TV show!).

We have other youth organisations that we are planning on doing other workshops with
